Coxie's Corner

Recently I unleashed the green thumb that lay dormant in the recesses of my talent bank by planting flowers around my home. Two or three things I observed about flowering plants. When the light filtering in is inadequate, the plants appear to flourish, with lush green leaves but no color. The second thing I noticed if the plants receive insufficient water, they become droopy and shriveled including the blossoms. The first drops of water you see the plants begin to straighten and the blooms appear as velvet, soft to the touch.

I think about the Word of God when I'm merely a hearer of the Word and not a doer. I appear all Christian and right with the world on the outside, some would even believe I flourish. When I take no action on the commands of Scriptures, an invitation to the be the hands and feet of the Almighty I'm like the plants with no blossoms, the promise of the spectacular is evident but a promise is not fulfillment. When I neglect the Word of God I can become cranky, unappreciative and void of the joy that comes from an ongoing, intimate relationship with Amazing God of the Universe

The next time you pass a panorama of color that is a flower garden, pause and reflect on the lessons the petunia, begonia or even the cactus plant can teach you.
